The FA Cup fourth round brings an exciting clash as League One side Exeter City hosts Premier League giants Nottingham Forest at St James Park on Tuesday. Exeter will be hoping to cause an upset against their high-flying opponents, but Forest’s strong form makes them the favorites heading into the tie.

Match Preview

Exeter City secured their place in the fourth round with a commanding 3-1 victory over Oxford United in the previous round. Despite conceding an early goal, two strikes from Demetri Mitchell helped the Grecians to advance. However, their recent League One form has been far from impressive. Gary Caldwell’s men have lost five of their last six league matches and currently sit 18th in the League One table with 32 points, just six points above the relegation zone.

On the other hand, Nottingham Forest comes into this match in top form. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side recently demolished Brighton & Hove Albion 7-0 in the Premier League, with Chris Wood scoring a hat-trick and Anthony Elanga providing three assists. Currently sitting third in the Premier League with 47 points, Forest has been one of the season’s standout teams. Their defense has also been solid, conceding just 27 goals all season, the third-best record in the top flight.

Team News and Possible Lineups

Exeter City is expected to field a similar starting XI to the one that beat Oxford United. Joe Whitworth will start in goal, shielded by a three-man defense of Jack Fitzwater, Alex Hartridge, and Edward Francis. Ryan Woods and Jake Richards could once again feature in midfield, while Demetri Mitchell and Sonny Cox provide attacking options.

Exeter City possible starting lineup:
Whitworth; Fitzwater, Hartridge, Francis; McMillan, Woods, Richards, Harper; Mitchell, Watts; Magennis.

For Nottingham Forest, Chris Wood and Callum Hudson-Odoi are unavailable, with Taiwo Awoniyi likely leading the attack. Jota Silva and Ramon Sosa could play on the wings, while Carlos Miguel is expected to start in goal.

Nottingham Forest possible starting lineup:
Miguel; Boly, Toffolo, Morato; Da Silva Moreira, Yates, Sangare, Moreno; Jota, Sosa; Awoniyi.

Match Prediction

Despite Exeter’s home advantage, it will be an uphill battle for the League One side. Nottingham Forest’s defensive solidity and attacking prowess give them a clear edge. Given Exeter’s struggles in recent weeks and Forest’s incredible form, expect a controlled performance from the visitors.

Prediction: Exeter City 0-2 Nottingham Forest
